Mrs. Eda [sic] M. Berger—Obituary

Mrs. Edna M. (Nebergall) Berger, daughter of James B. and Mary A. (Purdom) Nebergall, was born at Iola, Kansas, October 27, 1891. She passed away May 21, 1946, at Bethel Deaconess hospital in Newton, Kansas, having reached the age of 54 years, six months and 24 days.

At the age of one year she moved, with her parents to a farm close to Zimmerdale, Kansas, where she lived until her marriage to Gus Berger of Moundridge, November 10, 1915. To this union was born one daughter, Mary Elizabeth, now Mrs. R. B. Gilmour of Beeville, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Berger farmed the Lehman farm, four miles west of Hesston for 27 years. In 1939, they purchased the Nebergall farm one mile north of Zimmerdale and moved there in 1943 at which place they resided until Gus passed away one year ago, at which time Edna was a patient in Bethel Deaconess hospital. Since then she has lived with her daughter, Mary in Texas and her sister, Mrs. P. L. Wedemeyer, Rural Route 1, Newton.

She had been a member of the Hesston Methodist Church since childhood. Besides her daughter Mary, she leavers her sister, Mrs. P. L. Wedemeyer and two brothers, J. M. (Mack) and Lloyd, both of Newton and a host of other relatives and friends.

She had been in poor health the last year and had been in the hospital from March 2, until her passing. She took her suffering with great patience. During these last weeks of her illness, her friends have shown their love and devotion by constant attendance at her bedside until death released her from her pain and suffering and took her to join her late husband in their heavenly home.

Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Newton, Kansas, on Thursday, May 23 at 2:30 p. m. with Rev. A. R. Poe and Rev. G. Luther Coppedge taking part in the services. Mrs. C. N. Parsons and Mrs. C. L. Merriam sang, "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus," "How Firm a Foundation" and "Someday We'll Understand." They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Chas. Bachmann. Pallbearers were: John E. Neufeldt, Arnold Miller, Frank Pullen, Bob Ruth, Melvin Blosser and Max Vogt. Interment was made in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery by Rex M. Moody of the Moody's Funeral Home.
