MRS. OLLIE BERGEN

Ollie Bergen, daughter of Tom and Lydia Krohm, was born or Jan. 28, 1906, at Oak Grove, Mo. While still an infant she was left an orphan and made her home with a friend, Mrs. Margaret Morris of McPherson, Kansas, where she grew to womanhood and received her elementary education.

On July 26, 1923, she was united in holy matrimony with Jacob Bergen. This union was blessed with four children. They resided In the vicinity of Hutchinson most of the time. The Lord permitted them to share 31 years of joy and sorrow. Mrs. Bergen loved to keep house and was a loving mother and much concerned about the welfare of her children. Mother appreciated the beauty of nature and especially flowers.

Fifteen years ago she was afflicted with an incurable ailment and has suffered much during that time. All medical aid available was sought but the final analysis was that no remedy could be procured. The last four years she was helpless and bedfast most of the time.

In September 1948 she set her spiritual house in order and made peace with her Savior. Although a woman of good moral character, she saw her need of a personal Savior and accepted Christ as her Savior and experienced the peace of her soul, knowing her sins were forgiven. Often she said, “Jesus will heal me," but after growing weaker she resigned her will to God’s will and patiently waited for the time when her mansion in heaven was ready. Now she is “absent from body and present with the Lord.”

Although she could not attend church she loved to hear the old familiar hymns and have the Scriptures read to her, and even while in severe pain they seemed to ease and quiet her. Several times she said that she was praying for us during our regular church services.

The Lord called her to her heavenly home on Tuesday morning, Sept. 28, at 8:20 at the age of 48 years and eight months. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Jacob; three sons, Harold and Raymond of the home, Lee Elmer of South Hutchinson; one daughter Darlene (Mrs. Anton Ramos) of Port Smith, Va.; one daughter-in-law Patricia; one son-in-law, Anton; two grandchildren and a host of friends.

In the midst of pain and agony Mrs. Bergen exercised great faith. Her faith was always positive and if she could speak to us today, we believe these would be her words to us;

“Jesus the Saviour did pilot me through the rough voyage of life. He has power to still the waters and calm the storm and strife. Now that my journey is ended and from my burden’s I‘m free, there are lights in the harbour shining to welcome me.”

Funeral services were conducted at the Johnson and Son funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Edwin F. Walter the officiating minister. Interment was made at the Inman cemetery where other relatives are resting. Lunch was served by friends at the Inman Mennonite church following the services at the cemetery.
