GEORGE BERGEN, JR.
George Bergen entered this life on Nov. 3, 1903, at Medford, Okla. On May 23, 1926, he was baptized upon confession of faith and was received into the church by the late Rev. John Lichti.
On Feb. 15, 1929 he was united in marriage with Clara Thimm. To this union two children were born, Neva Lynn, June 11, 1938, and Wayne Alan, June 5, 1942.
He was a loving father and husband who greatly enjoyed doing things for his family. He and Mrs. Bergen were united with the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite church in Wichita on Feb. 6, 1938, where he remained a member until his death.
While he had had previous trouble with his heart he was able to get along fairly well until shortly before his death when major surgery became necessary. This was performed Sept. 10. The following day, Sept. 11, at 10 p.m. he suffered a heart attack and passed from this life.
He leaves to mourn his widow of the home; a son Wayne Alan of the home, and a daughter, Mrs. Claude (Neva) Leckington of Newton; five sisters, Mrs .J. M. Reimer, Mrs. Gerhardt Peters, Mrs. Fred Anthony, Mrs. Ted Dirksen, and Mrs. Pete Froese; and three brothers Ben, John and Marvin.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 14. At 10 a.m. a service was held at the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite church in Wichita, with Rev. George S. Stoneback officiating. A quartet comprised of Mrs. Waldo Leisy, Mrs. Dean Stucky, Vilas Gerber and Raymond Ratzlaff, with Mrs. Dale Stucky as accompanist, furnished music. At 2:30 p.m. another service was held at the Medford, Okla. Mennonite church, where a quartet comprised of Gus Neufelt, William Neufelt, Harry Neufelt, and J. G. Janzen sang. Interment was made in the cemetery at Medford.
