MARIA HILDEBRANDT BERG
Maria H. Berg was born to Jacob and Aganetha (Penner) Hildebrandt in the Hope Valley community in Marion County, an. on Feb. 11, 1885. Here she attended school, and here her father passed away in 1901. At the age of 22 years she moved with her mother to Hooker, Okla.
On April 30, 1908 she was united in marriage to Abe Berg. In 1910 she accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour, was baptized and joined the Baptist church. She remained a faithful member for 52 years.
In 1913 the family moved from Hooker in Inola, Okla., and from there to Collinsville, Okla. where they lived for 46 years. In 1961, since her health was failing, they moved to Tulsa to be close to their children. While at Collinsville they celebrated their golden wedding.
She went through many hardships as her husband was blind for 30 years. It was a great joy to them when, three years ago, an operation was performed and he could partially see her and their children as well as the beautiful flowers and garden which she cared for.
Surviving are her husband of Tulsa; a daughter Lydia and husband Walter E. Krause of Lafayette, La.; two sons, Herman and wife, Lee and wife of Tulsa, six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Brown of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Lizzie Berg and husband of Reedley, Calif.; five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
Her parents, three brothers, one sister, preceded her in death. On brother, Gerhard Hildebrandt, died just two weeks before her death.
She was patient during her illness the last year and a half. Her devoted husband took care of her at home till she went to the hospital for a few days. The last 20 days she received wonderful care in a nursing home.
She was a praying Christian and was loved by her family. She reached the age of 77 years, five months and 18 days. Her marriage lasted 54 years and three months.
Funeral services took place Aug. 1 at the Collinsville Baptist Tabernacle, Collinsville, Okla.
