DAVID WESLEY BERG

David Wesley Berg was born at Kirk, Colorado, U.S.A . on January 4, 1894 to Wilhelm and Katharina (nee Bergthold) Berg. He spent his childhood and most of his youth in the U.S.A. At age 16, following his conversion, he was baptized and accepted into the North Hoffnungsfeld Mennonite Brethren Church at Fairview, Oklahoma.

In January, 1924, he was married to Agnes Dahl at Colby (Salem) Kansas. The marriage was blessed with three sons and two daughters. In 1924 they came to Waldheim, Sask., but went to California a few years later to attend the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (BIOLA) and then returned to farm at Waldheirn. Here he also managed the local co-op business for a number of years. On October 5, 1937, while the family was young, it pleased the Lord to call home his beloved wife, Agnes. In September of 1938 he was married to Helen Regier. This marriage was blessed with two daughters.

In addition to his occupation, he was always an active member of his church, serving in the teaching ministry and as choir director for many years, training for which he had received through studies with the Columbian Conservatory of Music and attedance at the Baptist Theological Seminar Los Angeles, Calif., from which he graduated. In 1960 he retired to Saskatoon, Sask. He was faithful member of the Central Church there at the time of his death and a veteran member of Gideons International.

He enjoyed a full, rich life of unusual good health and was always active in the family, church and community activities. During the last few months, however, he developed a muscular ailment for which he was eventually hospitalized. On November 10, he passed into the presence of the Lord. He reached the age of 80 years, 10 months and 6 days.

He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Helen, four daughters; Pauline and Mal Schmidt, Kay and Al Wiebe, Lois, Lydia and Cliff Friesen; three sons, Menno and Alice, Ray and Trudy, Harold and Edna; 18 grandchildren and one great grandson; two sisters Mrs. Henry S. (Marie) Dahl and Ella; two brothers, Daniel and John; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents , his first wife, Agnes, three sisters, five brothers and one grandson.
