SHOE MANUFACTURER, FORMER RELIEF WORKER KILLED IN CALIFORNIA

Meyersdale, Pa. — Funeral services were held here recently for Ray Bender, well-known Somerset business man who was killed Feb. 18 when struck by a car as he crossed a street in La Jolla, Calif.

Mr. Bender was founder and board chairman of the Bender Shoe Co. and president of the Bender Implement Co., both of Somerset. For two years after World War I he was secretary of an orphanage at Beirut, Syria under the Bear East Relief.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, Meyersdale.
