Former Harvard Dean Of Admissions Dies
Goshen, Ind. — Word was received here that Dr. Wilbur J. Bender, 66, former dean of admissions at Harvard College, died suddenly at his home in Cambridge, Mass. on March 31. The funeral was held at Andover Chapel on April 3.
A former Goshen College student and former teacher here, Dr. Bender was a brother of Miss Florence Bender of Goshen, Dr. Robert L. Bender of Elkhart and John E. Bender of Philadelphia, and of the late Dr. Harold S. Bender and Dr. C. K. Bender of Goshen.
Mr. Bender held degrees from Harvard and in 1961 was awarded an honorary L.L.D. degree. He was a trustee of Radcliffe College and Andover Prep School, a director of the Council on Foundations, a member of the Massachusetts Crime Commission, and of the Governor's Council on Mental Health of Massachusetts.
