Serious Tragedy Near Millersburg, Ohio
THREE AMISH YOUTHS ASPHYXIATED BY CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES
Millersburg, Ohio. — One of the saddest tragedies in many years occurred in the Mt. Hope community near here on Sunday night, March 10, when three Amish youths were fatally stricken by carbon monoxide fumes from their car, which had become stuck in a mudhole along the road.
Levi Beechy, 15 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Beechy, Fredericksburg, was dead when the accident was discovered on the following afternoon by passing motorists. Aden Miller, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli J. Miller, Millersburg; Norman Mullett, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Mullett, Fredericksburg, and Manual Schlabach, 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Schlabach, were brought to the local hospital, where Miller and Mullett died. Schlabach is on the way to recovery.
Circumstances indicate that the youths, unable to extricate the car, decided to spend the night at the roadside and had left the motor running in order to keep warm.
Funeral services held at the respective homes were largely attended.
