COMPANIONS IN CAR HOSPITALIZED WITH SEVERE INJURIES

Omaha, Neb. — Funeral services were held at the West Fairview Mennonite church west of Milford for Mr. and Mrs. Joe Beckler of the Seward community, who lost their lives in a car-train crash near Shickley on Oct. 6.

Another couple, Floyd and Agnes Steckley of Beaver Crossing, were badly injured in the accident and are confined to the Geneva hospital.

The couples were enroute to the funeral of Nick Schweitzer, uncle of the two women, at the Mennonite church near Shickley. They were traveling on a country road and Mr. Steckley the driver, apparently failed to notice the approaching Burlington Lines freight train.

The car was hurled some distance and all four occupants thrown out. Mr. Beckler, 60 years of age, died instantly and his wife, who was 53, lived about five minutes, train crewmen reported.
