Mrs. Susanna Becker, the daughter of Peter and Catherina Jantz, was born in Poland, Russia on February 12, 1864. At the age of 11 she with her parents emigrated to the United States, landing in Pennsylvania. About three years later they moved to Moundridge, Kansas.

She spent much of her early years working for other people, earning her passage from the foreign country.

On March 25, 1877, she was baptized upon confession of her faith by Rev. Jacob Stucky at the Canton church (Emanuel), Moundridge, Kansas.

On January 22, 1884, she was united in marriage to Benjamin B. Becker. They made their home on a farm four miles north of Moundridge, later moving to town. In 1898 they moved to a farm near Meno, Oklahoma. At the same time they transferred their membership to the New Hopedale Mennonite church where she remained a member until her death.

She was always active in church and other work until she became ill in December 1950, and insisted on taking care of herself until the day before her death, which occurred on September 18, 1951 at 12:25 a.m. at the age of 87 years, seven months and six days.

Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was expressed many times during her lifetime. She selected the Scripture and hymns to be used at her funeral.

Her husband preceded her in death March 6, 1932. Also two sons preceded her, one in infancy and Andrew on October 18, 1918.

She leaves to mourn her departure four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Jantz of Meno, Mrs. Mary Riesen of Ponca City, Miss Martha Becker of San Diego. Calif., Miss Esther Becker of New York City; five sons, Frank of Gainsville [sic], Florida, Harry of Enid, Henry of Medford, and Walter and Olin of Meno.

She also leaves nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held at the Brown’s funeral home chapel in Enid, led by Rev. Arnold Epp. Burial was made in the New Hopedale cemetery at Meno.
