RUBEN BECKER

Ruben Becker was born on Aug. 11, 1903, at Marion, S. D. to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob B. Becker. together with his parents he moved to Chinook, Mont. in the spring of 1917 and returned again with them in the fall of 1920.

In the spring of 1921 special evangelistic services were held in the E. M. B. Church at Marion, S. D., with Rev. G. P. Schultz as the speaker. Bro Becker saw his need of Christ and received Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour.

In July 1921 he was baptized upon his confession of faith in Christ and received into the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church of Marion, S. D. He remained a faithful member of this church until his transfer to glory on March 16.

On June 26, 1929, Ruben Becker was united in h9oly wedlock to Elsie Marie Unruh at Avon, S. D. by Rev. D. P. Schultz. Three children were born to this union. They lived on a farm north of the present site for 12 years. In 1941they moved to the present location, six and a half miles west and a half-mile north of Marion. On this location Ruben's parents were cared for for 12 years prior to their passing. He was always active in the work of the church. He served as recording secretary for six years, and an additional six years on the church board. he was also active int he Sunday school as a teacher, and supported a missionary on the field.

Father became ill on Sunday March 11. He was taken to the Freeman community Hospital on march 14. A blood condition had developed which caused bleeding in various parts of the body. He passed from the scene of this life to the scenes of glory Friday, March 16, having reached the age of 58 years, seven months and five days.

He was preceded in death by his five-year-old daughter Ruthie; his parents, one brother and one sister in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie of Marion; one son, Loren and wife Donna of Marion; one daughter, Arlene, of Omaha, Neb.; one grandchild, Kevin; six brothers, Dave, of Freeman, S. D., Joseph of Marion, S. D., Anton of Omaha, Neb., Sam of Grand Island, Neb., Aaron of Mountain Lake, Minn., and Jake of Marion; five sisters, Susie, Mrs. Pete Schroeder of Moutain Lake, Minn., Eva, Mrs. John Schroeder of Floodwood, Minn., Helen, Mrs. Joseph L. Thomas of Marion, Alvina, Mrs. Pete Nickel, of Auke Bay, Alaska, a missionary, and Martha, missionary in Guyaquil, Ecuador. The church and the community will miss greatly the presence and the influence of this soldier of the cross. — The Bereaved Family.
