PETER J. BECKER

Peter J. Becker was born Dec. 24, 1881, on a farm near Halstead, Kansas. His parents were Sarah Koehn Becker and Jacob Becker, both born in Russia. In 1902 Mr. Becker was married to Lena Unruh in Goltry, Okla. Mrs. Becker preceded her husband in death as did their daughter Lorraine, Mrs. Wm. Koehn.

The surviving children are: Herman of Winton, Calif., Irvine of Wichita, Kansas, and Malinda (Mrs. Leslie Jantz) of Hutchinson, Kansas. The grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive him.

His last years were marked by frequent illnesses. He frequently prayed that he might go home to be with the Lord.

He went into the presence of Christ on Sept. 14, 1958, at 10:00 p. m. at Hutchinson, Kansas at the age of 76 years, eight months and14 days.

He came to a saving knowledge of Christ when he was past 70 years of age and was interested in spiritual matters from that time. He was baptized at Hutchinson after his profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The hope of eternal life was his because he trusted alone in the finished work of Christ on the Cross for him.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Mennonite Church of Halstead on Sept. 19, at 2:00 p. m., with Richard Burson of Hutchinson officiating. Music was furnished by the Hesston Quartet comprised of Lonnie Loucks, Ernie Wyse, Ivan White and Ray Kauffmann. Grandsons served as casket bearers. Burial was made in the Halstead Cemetery.
