MRS. JOHN BECKER

Marie Dyck Becker was born April 24, 1872, in Hohendorf, North Russia, where she lived for a period of about eight years. At the age of 14 years she was baptized on confession of her faith in Jesus Christ her Lord, whom she served until her Savior took her home.

On October 24, 1899, she was married to John Becker near Chiva, Russia, with whom she lived for more than 60 years. To this union nine children were born, of whom two preceded her in death in their infancy.

In 1893 she journeyed with her husband to the United States, and settled at Brainard, Kansas where they lived for a number of years, and from there moved to Newton, Kansas, where they became citizens of the United States. In the year 1908 the family moved to Aberdeen, Idaho, where they lived on their farm until retirement in 1936, and since that time have lived in their home at Aberdeen.

On February 9, 1950, she took sick, frm which illness she did not recover. Death came quietly on April 28, 1950, at about 10:00 p.m.

She was a devoted Christian wife and mother, faithfully endeavoring to teach her children the way of salvation.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, John Becker, one daughter, six sons, twenty-one grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Mennonite church, Aberdeen, Idaho, Tuesday, May 2, 1950 at 2:30 p.m. A brief service at the house preceded it at 2 p.m. The pastor of the church, rev. H. N. Harder, officiated, using as his text Rev. 14:13 and Psalm 23:6. A quartet sand three favorite German hymns and “What a Friend we Have in Jesus.” Burial was made at the Homestead cemetery.
