text of obituary:
JONAS A. BECKER
My beloved husband, Jonas A. Becker, was born in Lone Tree township on Nov. 11, 1886, and passed away at Mercy hospital, Moundridge, Kans. on June 21, 1953, reaching the age of 66 years, seven months and 10 days. Death was caused by complications of shaking palsy and pneumonia.
Jonas grew to manhood, received his education, and lived in this community as a quiet and peaceful farmer all his life. On January 23, 1912, he united in marriage to Elizabeth Unruh. together we shared joys and sorrows of life for 41 years, four months and 28 days.
In the spring of 1916 he was converted and on Palm Sunday of that year was baptized into the fellowship of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He had a quiet disposition, keeping to himself the trials of his faith from which he was not spared. However, he was keenly aware of his spiritual needs and about three years ago had the experience of a real homecoming in the spirit, which brought great joy to him and to others for the wonderful Grace of God.
About 10 years ago his disordered nervous system became a steady burden on his body and continued until his death. His ailment became so severe in the last several months that help was needed to care for him most of the time. On Thursday, June 18, he was taken to the Mercy hospital, and Sunday morning, June 21 at 9:50 he passed away. shortly before his passing he was asked whether he was going to heaven if he were to die, to which he replied “yes” and also said that he was not afraid to die. Thus we entrust him to God with a living hope of salvation.
He leaves to mourn his departure his sorrowing companion Elizabeth Becker, five brothers and two sisters, Dan, Mary (Mrs. Dick Unruh), Fred, Charley, and Herman of Galva, Carrie (Mrs. Emil Buller) and Menno of McPherson. Two sisters and his parents, Andrew A. and Sisie Becker, preceded him in death. — Mrs. Elizabeth Becker.
