ISAAC B. BECKER
Isaac B. Becker, son of Rev. Benjamin J. and Susanna Koehn Becker, was born March 21, 1883 west of Marion, S. D. Later he with his parents moved to a farm two miles east of Dolton, S. D. where, together with nine brothers and four sisters he grew to manhood. He lost his father through death at the early age of 14 years after which he worked hard help his widowed mother provide for the family.
He accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour and experienced the forgiveness of sin and assurance of salvation in the 24th year of his life. On Sept. 22, 1907 he was baptized on the confession of his faith by Elder Henry Dick of Mt. Lake, Minn., and accepted into the Bruderthaler Church, which later was named the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren church.
On Oct. 14, 1908 he was united in marriage with Eva P. Becker. To this union were born four daughters and one son.
After their marriage they made their home on a farm about six miles west of Marion where the Lord blessed their labors abundantly. Mother and father loved the Lord dearly and supported His work with prayer and financially. Father served as Sunday school teacher and in various church offices.
On Jan. 27, 1939, our dear mother departed from this life. Father spent almost 22 years as a widower. In 1944 he retired from the farm and made his home with his daughter, Esther, in Dolton. Father loved to work and continued to farm on a small scale.
In May 1956 he had a heart attack which left him in a poor condition till a few months later, when he improved so that he was able to attend church services and do light work.
He seemed remarkably well until Christmas morning when he had a severe stroke after which he went into a coma. He passed away the same day at about 6:30 p.m. at his home in Dolton, reaching the age of 77 years, nine months and four days.
He leaves to mourn his departure his children, Esther of the home, Johnnie and wife Pauline of Marion, S. D., Adeline and husband, Rev. Arnold A. Fast of Savage, Minn., Selda and husband, Rev. Lloyd D. Ensz of Salix, Iowa, and Naomi and husband Harry D. Ensz of Freeman, S. D.; eleven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Boldt of Marion, and Mrs. Susie Schroeder of Sioux Falls, S. D.; one brother, Tobias of Marion; one aunt, Mrs. Helen Unruh of Freeman; and many relatives and fiends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, nine brothers, two sisters, and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held Dec. 28 at the Walter Funeral Home in Freeman and the E.M.B. church. Officiating clergymen were Rev. Abe Becker, Watertown, S. D., Rev. H. P. Wiebe, Omaha, Neb., and Rev. Jacob B. Hofer, Dolton. – The Family.
