MRS. HELEN BECKER

Our mother and sister, Mrs. Helen Becker, daughter of Jacob P. and Ernestine Becker, was born Sept. 5, 1894, at Marion, South Dakota and passed away at her home March 25, 1959, having reached the age of 64 years, six months and 20 days. Her sudden and comparatively short illness had confined her to her home which was a shock to relatives, friends and neighbors among whom she had lived all her life.

At an early age she received Christ as her personal Saviour during the revival meetings conducted by Rev. H. S. Rempel, and later became a member of the Silver Lake M. B. church by relation of her Christian experience and baptism. Here she served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years, and also in other activities in the church. Her spiritual interests were an inspiration to those with whom she associated. Her primary interest in life, especially during her illness, was the spiritual progress of the Lord’s work in and through her church and those members of her family who are in the Lord’s work.

She was married to Jonas B. Becker on Sept. 23, 1920, who preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1953. She then made her home in Marion. Here she was happily situated, living a normal and useful life when she became ill and underwent two major operations. God in His grace saw fit to call her Home, thus fulfilling her heart’s longing to be with her Lord whom she loved. Exercising long-suffering and patience without complaining, she triumphed to the very end and entered gloriously into her eternal rest.

Some things which occupied her mind during the closing days of her life and which she expressed to those who ministered to her needs were favorite hymns, Scripture quotations, and significant remarks such as: “Rejoice with me that my redemption is at hand,” and “the blood of Jesus Christ is all my plea.” One of her favorite Scripture verses was Isaiah 41:10.

Her patience in this last great trial of her life was a constant testimony to all who visited her. Her departure will be deeply felt by two daughters: Verna, serving in Africa, and Leona, Mrs. Albert Adrian, of Great Bend, Kansas; one son-in-law; four sisters; eight brothers; three grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, March 28, from the Silver Lake M. B. Church with Rev. J. Regehr and Rev. H. P. Fast officiating. Burial was made in the Mennonite Cemetery. Rev. Tellinghuisen addressed the gathering at the preliminary service at the Tschetter Funeral Chapel. – The Family.
