SCHOOL NURSE, FORMER MISSIONARY TO INDIA DIES IN OREGON

Salem, Ore. — Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Becker, 50, faculty member at Western Mennonite School and former missionary to India, were held May 13 at the Zion Mennonite Church, Hubbard.

Mrs. Becker and her husband, Henry D. Becker, served two terms on the Bihar, India field. Since their return to the homeland in 1959 she had taught health classes and served as school nurse at W. M. S.

Surviving are her husband and five children, all of the home.

GLADYS WEAVER BECKER

Gladys Martha Weaver Becker was born April 7, 1913 at Atwood, Kan. She passed away at her home on May 11, 1963 at the age of 50 years, one month, and four days. In the fall of 1913 she moved with her parents to Oregon where she lived until the age of 16 when she with her family moved to Nampa, Idaho.

She accepted Christ and was baptized by Bishop A. P. Troyer at the age of 14. After taking nurse's training, she served in India as a missionary. On July 11, 1943 she was married to Henry D. Becker. To them were born five children: Elaine, Paul, Ruth, James and Mary. The Beckers served two terms on the Bihar, India mission field. Since returning to the States in 1959 she had taught Health classes and served as school nurse at Western Mennonite School.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Surviving beside her husband and children are her stepmother, one sister and five brothers.

Funeral services were held May 13 at the Zion Mennonite Church near Hubbard, Oregon, in charge of Wilbert Nafziger, Marcus Lind and John Lederach.
