Mennonite Weekly Review obituary: 1953 May 21 p. 9
Birth date: 1888 Jun 25
text of obituary:
MRS. DAVID BECKER
Mrs. Anna Unruh Becker, daughter of Peter D. and Helena Siebert Unruh, was born at Roxbury, Kansas, on June 25, 1888. The early years of her life were spent in Kansas. She came to Oklahoma with her parents on March 10, 1894, shortly after the opening of the Cherokee Strip, in which her father made the run, settling in the Meno community.
On February 7, 1909, she was baptized upon the profession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by Rev. John Ratzlaff and received into the New Hopedale Mennonite church of Meno. She was a faithful and loyal member of this church until her dying day. Though poor health in recent months necessitated her absence from the House of God, her constant desire and longing, was to be able to fellowship with others of kindred faith.
On November 20, 1912, she was united in marriage to David A. Becker. The Lord blessed this home with one son and two dauters [sic]. For more than 40 years Bro. and Sister Becker were permitted to share the joys and sorrows that life brought to them.
She enjoyed the blessing of good health during most of her life. In recent months it became apparent that her tenament[sic] of clay was beginning to fail. Since October of 1952 she suffered repeated illnesses, but always recovered sufficiently so that she could again be up and around. Her final illness started with the flu, and with other complications setting in brought a rapid decline in her strength and resistance.
She departed this life peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 1953, at 5:15 a.m., at the age of 64 years, nine months, and eight days. Those who will miss her most are her husband David Becker; her son Waldo and wife Margaret Johnson Becker, and their five children of Meno; her two daughters, Iola, of the home; and Agnes and husband James Kisner, and their three children of Montrose, Colo.
In addition to these she leaves one sister, Agnes of Meno, Okla.; and seven brothers, Jacob, Tobe, Henry and John, all of Meno, Simon of Enid, David of Perryton, Texas, and Peter, whose address is unknown, also a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. Two sisters and five brothers preceded her in death.
“Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; for their works follow with them. . . . The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Funeral services were held April 6 at the New Hopedale Mennonite church. Rev. Arnold Epp, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. H. U. Schmidt. Rev. A. G. Schmidt led in a brief service in the home. A men’s quartet served with songs.
