Accidents in Various States Result in Deaths, Injuries
TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN ILLINOIS, PENNSYLVANIA CLAIM THREE LIVES
Accidents in Amish and Mennonite communities in widely separated parts of the nation have again taken a heavy toll of deaths and injuries, according in reports reaching the Review.
In a pre-dawn traffic accident near Arthur, Ill., a car struck the rear of a tractor being driven by LeRoy D. Beachy, 35, resulting in his death the following day at a Decatur hospital. He was single and resided with his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer E. Stutzman. Funeral services were held Nov. 27.
Services were held the same day at Mercer, Pa. for Roman Troyer, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Troyer who died almost instantly when he lost control of his car and it overturned.
While riding his bicycle to a singing, a 19-year-old youth of the Churchtown community in Lancaster County, Pa. was struck by a car and instantly killed. Funeral services were held Nov. 23 at the Weaverland church.
While hunting on his father's farm near Middlebury, Ind., 22-year-old Lester Bontrager fell and accidentally discharged his shotgun, the charge striking his leg and chest. He is expected to recover. Sam A. Hershberger of Trail, Ohio had to have one eye removed, the result of being shot in the eye by another hunter near Hartville, Ohio.
Surgery was performed at Akron, Ohio to save the life of John D. Troyer, 18-year-old son of Dan D. Troyer of Dalton, who was kicked in the face by a horse. At Blountstown, Fla. 24 stitches were required to close a wound in the arm of two-year-old Mary Yoder, daughter of Earl Yoders. She caught her arm in the chain of an automatic poultry feeder.
