FIFTEEN YEAR OLD YOUTH DROWNED AT BLUFFTON, OHIO, ON AUGUST 6
The Pandora times, of Pandora, Ohio, last week published the following details about the tragic drowning of Richard Basinger of Bluffton, Ohio, on August 6:
Richard Basinger, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Basinger, of bluffton, drowned at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, August 6, at the municipal waterworks quarry in Southeast Bluffton.
He was the victim of cramps having slipped into the water where he was swimming with a dozen other boys. Many efforts were made to rescue the youth, but all in vain. Evan Soash, lifeguard at the Buckeye lake pool located the body in 20 feet of water.
Richard was born on February 13, 1926, the son of Ezra and Irene Fogel (Songer) Basinger. Surviving are his parents, two sisters, Ellen, 17, and Ann, 6, and a brother Hubert, 13.
The funeral service was held Friday afternoon at the Reformed Mennonite church, southeast of this place, with Rev. William Rupp officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
