Martha Schroeder Bartel was born on April 19, 1887 at Hillsboro, Kan., the youngest child of Peter P. and Anna Schroeder. She was baptized on Dec. 10, 1905 by Rev. H. R. Voth and was received into Saron Mennonite Church of Orienta, Okla.

On Dec. 27, 1907 she was married to Cornelius Bartel, with Rev. D. F. Ratzlaff officiating. They first lived at Durham, Kan. In 1917 the family moved to their homestead north of Wolf Point, Mont., where they farmed until 1949 when they retired. They spent the next four years in Hillsboro, Kan. In 1953 they took up residence in Wolf Point. In July 1967 she moved to the Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point.

Mrs. Bartel found great satisfaction in service to the needy, by sewing clothing for relief. She was always willing to offer her hospitality to those visiting in the community in the interest of missions and Christian service. In this way, she expressed her love for the Lord.

She passed away on Dec. 19, 1967 at the Faith Lutheran Home, reaching the age of 80 years and eight months. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Clarence, Marvin and Monroe of Wolf Point; one daughter, Evelyn, Mrs. Adolph Lentzner of Arvada, Colo.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Peter H. Schroeder of Hillsboro, Kan. Preceding her in death were her husband, Cornelius Bartel, in 1957; her daughter Hilda in 1947; also two children and two grandchildren in infancy.

Funeral services were held at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point on Dec. 23, 1967 with Rev. Frank Funk officiating. Interment was in the family plot in the Bethel Mennonite Cemetery near volt, Mont.

MRS. CORNELIUS BARTEL
