• Funeral services were held at the Brudertal Church near Hillsboro last Friday afternoon for Mrs. Maria Bartel, 85. Rev. Walter Neufeld, the pastor, officiated. Mrs. Bartel died Jan. 5 at Salem Hospital after a year's illness. The former Maria Jantz, she was a lifelong resident of the Brudertal community. She and her husband, John H. Bartel, farmed northeast of Hillsboro for many years. After his death in 1941 she moved to Hillsboro, and the past four years resided at a home for aged. Survivors include six sons, four daughters, 28 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. She was a sister of Mrs. H. P. Goertz and Mrs. Herman Rogalsky of Newton.
