— A number of Newton friends went to Hillsboro on Monday, Jan. 15, to attend funeral services at the Johannestal church for Jacob G. Bartel, well-known retired farmer of that community who died at the Bethesda hospital, Goessel on Jan. 11. Mr. Bartel had served as county commissioner for a number of years, and had also been on the board of directors of the Hillsboro creamery and the Co-op Grain and Mercantile company, Lehigh. He is survived by his wife, one daughter and four sons and their families. The services were in charge of Rev. Pete Goering of Lehigh and Rev. Gerh. Friesen of Newton.
