text of obituary:
EBAL [sic EBEL] B. BARTEL
Ebal [sic Ebel] B. Bartel was born on Nov. 14, 1884, in Marion County, Kansas to Garhard [sic Gerhard] and Anna Bartel. He moved to Beaver County, Oklahoma in 1907 and lived there for the remainder of his life.
On July 23, 1908, he was married to Henrietta Penner at Fairview, Okla. They lived on a farm at Balko, except for one year during the Dust Bowl days when they lived at Fairview. They were blessed during their marriage by the addition to their home of three daughters, Marie, Cora, and Evelyn.
At an early age he realized his need for Jesus Christ to become Savior and Lord of his life. He was baptized in 1903 at Fairview, and in 1908 was received into the fellowship of the Balko Mennonite Brethren Church where he remained a member until his death. He served for a number of years as a Sunday school teacher, and for a period of time as Foreign Missions Treasurer.
Because of his health, he moved to the Fairview Fellowship Home in 1962. He enjoyed many of the experiences there. One of the blessings he had was participating in the Sunday school class at the Home. Also, during his stay there he had the opportunity to put aside other books and magazines and read the Bible through four times, with his favorite book being the Psalms.
On Dec. 18, 1971, he went home to be with the Lord in Glory. His wife and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his departure: three daughters, Marie (Mrs. Sam Neufeld) of Newton, Kan., Cora (Mrs. Neal Unruh) of Gresham, Ore. and Evelyn (Mrs. M. D. Kemph) of Kotzebuh [sic Kotzebue], Alaska; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Hulda Wahl, Mrs. Anna Hergert, and Mrs. Esther Unruh; one brother, Henry Bartel; and a host of other relatives and friends. — The Family.
