text of obituary:

MRS. H. J. BARTEL

Anna Krause Bartel, daughter of Franz and Katharina Nickel Krause, was born on Oct. 12, 1889, in the Alexanderwohl community near Goessel, Kan. She attended the elementary school in the Antioch district southwest of Hillboro [sic Hillsboro], and took some additional school work at Tabor. In 1905 she moved with her parents to Hillsboro.

On May 9, 1907, she was baptized upon the confession of her faith by Rev. Peter Balzer at the Alexanderwohl church and became a member there. In 1920 she transferred her membership to the First Mennonite church of Hillsboro and was a faithful member there at the time of her passing.

She enjoyed her occupation of a seamstress and helped to teach others this work. During the last 17 years of her life she was a house wife, mother and grandmother in the home of which she became a part, upon her marriage to H. J. Bartel on March 27, 1942.

She enjoyed fairly good health most of her life, but during the last year she began to fail. On Jan. 27 she entered the Salem hospital and submitted to surgery on Feb. 14. The surgery seemed to relieve her to a certain extent, but it was also discovered that she had an incurable disease which finally proved fatal on July 29.

Those remaining to mourn her passing are her husband, H. J. Bartel, three step children, Reola, Mrs. Jacob Becker, Hillsboro; Frieda, Mrs. Dave Bafus, Newton; and Elgin, Hillsboro; one daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, one sister, Aganetha, Mrs. Peter Golbeck, Dinuba, Calif.; three brothers, Abe F. Krause, Dallas, Ore.; Frank Krause, Hillsboro, and Pete Krause, Bellflower, Calif., nine grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
