Richard C. Bare

Services were held March 24, 1993, in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Ore., for Richard C. Bare, who died March 20, 1993. He was born at Harper, Kan., May 21, 1914, the son of Mahlon and Anna Holdeman Bare. On Sept. 16, 1946, in Washington, Iowa, he married Pauline Wittmer.

He served in the Army during World War II, serving three years as a liaison sergeant for the field artillery in the Philippines. He was a livestock and grain farmer in the Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, area from 1946 to 1959.

As an outgrowth of Bible studies in the Bare home, about 50 people established the Assembly of God Church, Mt. Pleasant.

In 1973, Bare and his family moved to Salem, Ore., where he founded R. C. Bare and Sons Carpentry Co., which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the VFW, the Disabled American Veterans and the Carpenters Local Union No. 1065.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Bill of Salem and Bob of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Bonnie Lofting of Salem; three brothers, John of Mt. Pleasant, Tilman of Pryor, Okla., and Harry of Adair, Okla.; a sister, Katherine Heyda of Redway, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Barbara; two brothers, Melvin and Ben; and a sister, Sally Graber.
