Mrs. J. H. Bare

Ida E. Bare, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Christophel) Bauer, was born Jan. 27, 1889, in Nappanee, Ind. She died July 14, 1977, in the Anthony (Kan.) Hospital after a five-week illness. She attained the age of 88 years, five months and 17 days.

The family lived in Tennessee and Louisiana a few years, then moved to Protection, Kan. in 1908. There she and Joseph H. Bare were married by Pastor Noah Ebersole on Feb. 14, 1915, at which time they moved to Harper, Kan. They were privileged to have had over 61 years of marriage, all of which were spent in the Harper area except four years in Missouri in the 1920's. Joe died Sept. 4, 1976.

At an early age Ida accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Mennonite Church. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church for over 50 years.

Ida will be greatly missed by two sons: Olin, Harper, Ivan and his wife, Ardis, Lebanon, Ore.; two daughters: Olive Bare, Newton, Marcella and her husband, Bob Diller, Hesston; nine grandchildren: Rosella, Boni, Lucinda and Doyle Bare; Mel and his wife, Norma, Marlin, DeAnn, Rod and Darlene Diller; one great-grandson: Aaron Lee Diller; one brother, John Bauer, Harper; two sisters: Mrs. Florence Cox, Anthony, Mrs. Herman (Martha) Zielke, Corn, Okla.; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Joe; a son, Rollo Joseph, and a daughter, Bertha Rebecca (both died in infancy); also four brothers, Harley, Cletus Noah, and Clinton Bauer and one sister, Rosie (Mrs. Otto Sherman).

She was a loving mother with a friendly, outgoing disposition and always cherished the fellowship with her many relatives and friends. Her love and service for her family and others was a great joy. Being the oldest of nine children, she did not have the opportunity of much formal education, but was skilled in the knowledge of life. She was an excellent cook, expert quilter, and delighted in being of service to others.

She had several strokes since 1965, but was always cheerful, and her determination and faith helped her recuperate and live a happy life.

On June 7, 1976, it was necessary for her to have a pacemaker. This enabled her to be with us an additional year.

Funeral services were held July 18, in the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church at Harper, with Rev. Fred Ginigerich and Rev. Millard Osborne officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
