• Sam J. Banman, 77, retired farmer and lifelong resident of the Goessel community, died Dec. 11 at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro. The funeral was conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Goessel Mennonite Church by Henry Goossen, the pastor. Surviving are his widow, the former Selma Schmidt, of the home in Goessel; three daughters, Elda of the home, Linda Schmidt of Newton and Mary Ann Bartel of Drake, Sask.; three sons, Paul of Newton, Leroy of Amarillo, Tex., and Kermit of Hesston; one daughter-in-law, Edmah Boese of Goessel; one brother, Abe, of Goessel; two sisters. Elizabeth Banman of Moundridge and Marie Quiring of Goessel; and 13 grandchildren.
