. . .
— A tragic event took place last Thursday morning in the home of a Negro family of Newton when Chester Banks, 214 west First street, was shot to death, allegedly by his father-in-law. According to reports, the shooting was the result of a quarrel between the two men, the dispute having been of quite long standing. The father coming home quite late on the previous night found the doors locked, which he blamed on his son-in-law who was living with him in the same house. Banks, it is stated, was shot with a rifle from a darkened room as he and other members of the family were sitting at the breakfast table.
