Father and Daughter Instantly Killed in Railroad Accident

WERE ON THE WAY HOME AFTER ATTENDING EVENING'S CHOIR PRACTICE

Blaine, Wash. — One of the largest funerals held at the Mennonite church near here in recent years took place Tuesday, Aug. 22, when P. J. Balzer, 48, and his daughter Verone, 14, were laid to their final resting place. Rev. N. N. Hiebert conducted the services.

Mr. Balzer and his daughter were instantly killed when the car in which they were riding was struck by a train only a few miles from their home near Ferndale. They were returning from choir practice held that evening and in some manner were unable to get out of the car quickly enough when it became stalled on the railroad tracks.

Mrs. Balzer, concerned over the delay in the return of her husband and daughter, was overcome with grief when she was informed of the tragedy several hours after it had happened.
