HENRY BALZER

On September 9, 1968, while taking a morning walk, Henry Balzer of Saskatoon, Sask., died suddenly of a coronary thrombosis. He was 57 years of age. Born on December 23, 1910, at Pleschanof, Russia, he emigrated to Canada in 1924 and settled with his parents near Colonsay, Sask. At the age of 19 he accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized several years later becoming a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. In 1935 and 1936 he studied at the Dalmeny Bible School. He was united in marriage to Katie Loewen on May 30, 1937 and for 31 years they were able to share life together. The Lord blessed their home with four sons and one daughter.

Though farming at Calonsay since 1941, the family had resided in Saskatoon for the past 20 years. There he was active in the work of the Saskatoon Mennonite Brethren Church. He is remembered by his family as a kind, loving father and husband. He had an optimistic outlook on life and was not easily discouraged. He had walked closely to the Lord, especially since his first illness in November, 1965. He felt that the Lord was giving him additional years in which to serve him.

The funeral was observed in the Nutana Mennonite Brethren Church on September 12 with Rev. H. H. Epp officiating. Mr. Balzer is survived by his wife Katie; sons, Ernie and his wife Serena of Saskatoon, Don and his wife Joan of St. Jerome, Que., Rudy and his wife Arlene of Edmonton, Glenn; daughter Esther and her husband Len Gusthart of Saskatoon, six grandchildren, six brothers and two sisters.
