AGATHA SIEMENS BALZER

Agatha Siemens Balzer, daughter of John and Anna Rempel Siemens, was born on a farm in Reno County, Kansas on Feb. 19, 1891. She attended the Hill School near Buhler for four years. She enjoyed working on her parents' farm, gardening and doing household tasks.

With her parents she attended Hebron Mennonite Church where she was baptized on June 13, 1909 by Rev. A. M. Martens. She remained a faithful member of this church until her death.

On June 17, 1915 she was married to David D. Balzer. They lived on a farm near Inman until 1952 when they moved to Buhler. Five children were born into this home, two of whom she was privileged to see grow to maturity.

Mother was always concerned about the health and welfare of others. For years she cared for her invalid husband, and she had a great concern for the health of her children and grandchildren. She also seemed to know when a friend was sick, discouraged or bereaved. In her quiet way she was there to help at just the right time

Mother also had a great love for flowers. After her farm and family responsibilities lessened she spent many happy hours in her flower garden. It was a great joy for her to prepare a bouquet of flowers for the church.

When her health began to fail a year ago she moved to the Pleasant View Home at Inman where she died on Nov. 29, 1976.

She leaves to mourn her departure: two sons, Victor S. and wife Lorene and John R. and wife Velma Jean; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Balzer and Mrs. Katherine Wiens, both of Inman, and Mrs. Nettie Franz of Buhler.

Preceding her in death were her husband, three children, Melvin, Menno, and Annie Ruth, and one grandchild, Janie.

Funeral services were conducted on Dec. 1, 1976 at Hebron church with Rev. H. B. Schmidt and Rev. Ed Wiebe officiating. She was laid to rest in the Hebron Cemetery.
