Bair, Albert E. (1916-2008)

Dr. Albert E. Bair, 91, of Urbana, died 11:47 p.m. Thursday, (April 10, 2008) at home.
Services are private. Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., U., is handling arrangements.
Dr. Bair was born May 21, 1916, in Newton, Kansas, the son of Clark and Alma Boldenow Bair. He married Clara Fern Brenneman on July 8, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Kathleen Ruhter of Mahomet and Sheila Bair Cooper of Washington D.C.; and four grandchildren, Matthew and Jeremy Ruhter and Preston and Colleen Cooper.
Dr. Bair enlisted in the Army Reserve Corps in 1934 and was a laborer until he was honorably discharged in 1942. He was called back to duty in 1951 by the U.S. Air Force and served as a captain and a surgeon until 1953.
Dr. Albert Bair attended Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas, and received a bachelor's degree in May of 1940. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical School in October, 1944, and was admitted to the practice of medicine and surgery in the State of Kansas that same year.
Dr. Bair practiced internal medicine and general surgery in Independence, Kansas, for over 30 years. He was active in the community, serving on the Board of Education and City Council. He retired part-time in the 1970s and worked as a part-time volunteer with the American Medical Association delivering medical services to underserved rural communities.
