MARIA PENNER BAERG

Maria Penner Baerg was born Jan. 1, 1903, in Watonwan County, Minn., to David B. and Katharina Penner Penner. She received her education at German School and Dist. 53. In the spring of 1920, she was baptized at First Mennonite Church, Butterfield, where she was a faithful member until her death.

On Nov. 12, 1920, she was united in marriage to Jacob J. Baerg on her father's farm near Butterfield. They farmed near Butterfield until 1981, when they moved into Butterfield to live with their son, Henry.

She died April 9, 1988, at St. Paul Ramsey Medical center, St. Paul, as a result of a fire at her residence the day before. She was 85.

Survivors include her husband, Jacob; five sons, Henry of Butterfield, Jacob and his wife Mildred of Minneapolis, David and his wife Gail of Minneapolis, Art and his wife Rosella of Butterfield and Paul of Butterfield; three daughters and their husbands, Anna and Clifford Koehn of Geary, Okla., Marie and Albert Oeltjenbruns of Bingham Lake, and Mathilda and Dewayne Erickson of Owatonna; four sisters, Anna (Mrs. Peter G.) Warkentin of Mt. Lake, Helen (Mrs. Henry A.) Braun of Windom, Martha Hockel of Golden Valley and Sarah Penner of Mt. Lake; three brothers, David D., Peter D., and Bernhard, all of Mt. Lake; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
