FRED BADERTSCHER

Fred Badertscher, son of Frederick and Marie Badertscher, was born near Bern, Switzerland on April 7, 1871, and died of a coronary heart disease and complications at South Side hospital in Youngstown, Ohio on April 5, 1950, just two days short of reaching the age of 79 years.

He was a resident of the vicinity at Kidron since coming to America at the age of eight years. He was united in marriage to the late Ida Amstutz Badertscher on May 10, 1896, and enjoyed a little more than 53 years of married life. Since the death of his wife Ida, on November 21, 1949, he has lived with members of his family. During the past six weeks he had resided with his son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. H. P. McGregor of North Lima, Ohio, where he became suddenly ill on April 1, 1950.

He is survived by the following children: Elma (Mrs. C. C Moser) of Dalton, R. D.; Amos E. of Baltimore, Md.; Monroe of Killbuck, Ohio; Edwin of Kenton, Ohio; Paul of Dalton, Ohio; Mollie (Mrs. H. P. McGregor) of North Lima, Ohio; and Mildred (Mrs. W. L. Wead) of Sabina, Ohio. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth King of Pandora, Ohio.

Mr. Badertscher joined the Salem Mennonite church early in life and remained a faithful member until his death. He also served the church as a deacon for a number of years. Although his health prevented his regular attendance during recent years he always maintained a deep interest in the activities and work of the church and spent many hours in reading the Bible and various magazines and books.

His passing has brought to a close an active life of Christian service to his family, his church, and to his community.

Short funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 8 at the Desvoignes Funeral Home and regular funeral services at the Salem Mennonite church at 2:30, with Rev. Irvin Richert, officiating.

A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Sprunger and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Gerber sang at the services. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
