REV. H. A. BACHMAN

Rev. H. A. Bachman, was born at Summerfield, Ill., March 1, 1868, and died at Woodlake, California, August 5, 1920, aged 52 years, 5 months and 4 days.

Brother Bachman was but two years of age when he lost his mother by death, and at the age of six he came with his father to Kansas. At the age of sixteen he was baptized on confession of faith and admitted to the membership of the Christian Mennonite Church, Kansas. In 1890 he entered the "Fortbildungs Schule," at Halstead, Kansas, where he studied for two years and then continued his studies at Bethel College for three years. After graduating he accepted a position as teacher at Mountain Lake, Minn. When his term of teaching had ended he attended the Moody Bible Institute at Chicago and afterwards became the pastor of the church at Butterfield, Minn. Following an invitation he visited the Pacific District Conference in 1899 and became the pastor of the church at Dallas, Oregon. On June 6, 1900 he united in marriage with Miss Emma Krehbiel, of Iowa. In the following year he accepted a position in the Academy at Mountain Lake, Minn., and two years later he accepted a position as professor in Freeman College, South Dakota. Here he labored as teacher and preacher for twelve years, when on account of failing health he moved to Woodlake, California, where he has resided since. At times he was so much improved that there was hope that the mild climate of California would restore his health, but when last Spring he suffered from the Influenza he realized that this would cause his death. He was fully resigned to the will of God.

Funeral services were held in the Reedley church on August 9, conducted by the brethren, Rev. H. J. Krehbiel and Rev. W. P. Neufeld. The widow and three children, besides five brothers and five sisters and his step-mother survive; also a host of other friends and relatives. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord."
