Farmer Killed When Train Hits Truck

Metamora, Ill. — A railroad crossing accident south of here on the County Line Road claimed the life of Rudy Bachman, 67, well-known farmer of the Washington community, on Nov. 9.

Mr. Bachman, driving a ton and a half truck loaded with shelled corn, apparently failed to notice the approaching GM&O train consisting of the engine, one car and caboose. He was thrown from the truck when the left front was hit by the slow-moving train.

A lifelong resident of this area, he was a member of the Calvary Mennonite Church in Washington where the funeral was conducted Nov. 11 by Rev. Ward Shelly.
