Dies In Indiana Following Accident

Berne, Ind. — Mrs. Mary M. Augsburger, 73, of Pandora, Ohio, wife of Menno Augsburger, died May 25 at Adams County Hospital in Decatur where she had been a patient following a highway accident on April 29. Although she was severely injured in the crash, death was said to be due to an infection in the blood stream.

Funeral services were conducted at the St. John Mennonite Church near Pandora on May 29, Rev. John P. Suderman in charge.

Mrs. Augsburger and her sister, Mrs Martha Bayless of Bradentown [sic Bradenton], Fla., were injured when the car driven by Mr. Augsburger collided with another vehicle near Decatur.

Survivors in addition to the husband and sister include another sister, Susan Diller of Bluffton, O.; two daughters, Mrs. L. R. Amstutz of Whitwater [sic Whitewater], Kan. and Mrs. Roger Wischmeier of Omaha, Neb.; two sons, Ottis of Pandora and Emmet of Bluffton; and five grandchildren.

MRS. MARY AUGSBURGER

Mary May (Diller) Augsburger, daughter of the late Rev. Benj. and Barbara (Steiner) Diller, was born Dec. 7, 1885, near Bluffton, Ohio. The farm is now owned by a nephew, the Kenneth Dillers.

She was joined in wedlock to Menno Augsburger, son of the late Henry and Barbara (Moser) Augsburger, on May 12, 1911. They celebrated their 48th anniversary at the Decatur, Ind. Hospital a short time before her death. Their first home was at Pandora, O. where Mr. Augsburger was employed by the Pandora Hardware Co. In 1913 they moved to a farm near Bluffton, where they remained until retiring in 1952.

Mrs. Augsburger was preceded in death by her parents and the following sisters and brothers: Melinda, Peter and Chris of Bluffton, Menno, Barbara and Elizabeth of Toledo, Calvin of Carey, Frank of McComb, and Edwin of Florida.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Roger Wischmeier of Omaha, Nebr. and Mrs. Lenna [sic Leanna] Amstutz of Whitewater, Kan.; two sons, Ottis of Pandora and Emmet [sic Emmett] of Bluffton; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Bayless of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Miss Susan Diller, resident of the Mennonite Memorial Home; and five granddaughters.

She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. Her special interests were nature (flowers in particular) and music. She found much joy, strength and inspiration by singing and playing the piano daily. In looking through her hymn books we found she had jotted down her favorites, revelatory of her faith in the Lord and His Eternal Word.

She and her husband spent the month of April traveling the western states. During two weeks they accompanied the Amstutz's to California where they attended the NAE Convention, did some sightseeing and visited relatives and friends.

In her youth she was baptized upon confession of her faith in the Savior and became a member of the St. John Mennonite Church near Pandora, O.

For several years, Mrs. Augsburger had been the correspondent of the Pandora-Bluffton column for the Mennonite Weekly Review.

On April 29 Mr. and Mrs. Augsburger accompanied by Mrs. Martha Bayless enjoyed a visit with their nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Diller of Kokomo, Ind. On the return they met with an auto accident in which Mrs. Augsburger suffered serious injuries. After many complications and much sufferings she went to be with her Lord on May 25 at the Adams County Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Ind.

Funeral services were conducted at the St. John Mennonite Church of Pandora with Rev. John P. Suderman officiating and Rev. Waldo Flickenger assisting.
