HELEN CAROLINE ANDRES

Helen Caroline Andres of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away July 5. She was born Jan. 14, 1913 to Henry and Susanne Sawatzky in Aberdeen, Sask. At 14, she accepted Christ at a revival meeting. She was baptized and joined Aberdeen MB Church a year later. In 1931 she married Bernhard W. Sawatzky, a union blessed with 4 daughters and 1 son. In 1936 they moved to Coaldale, Alta., where they were ordained, serving as principal and teacher of Coaldale Bible School. In 1957 they moved to Edmonton to do mission work which led to the establishment of Lendrum MB Church. She worked with her husband with joy and commitment. She was secretary of Coaldale ladies' aid for 8 years, secretary of Lendrum ladies' aid for 5 years and office secretary at Lendrum MB Church for 8 years. She loved people and the opportunity to interact with them. In early 1974 Bernhard passed away. In late 1974 she married John C. Andres of Herbert, Sask. In 1979 they moved to Clearbrook, B.C., joining Central Heights MB Church. She passed away after three difficult bouts with cancer. Predeceased by her first husband Bernhard, 2 brothers and 1 sister, she is mourned by her husband John; daughters Adeline Bergen of Calgary, Myrna Zoeteman of Edmonton, Charlotte Van Gelder of St. Albert, Alta. and Evelyn Lagasse of Clearbrook; son Wally Sawatzky of Abbotsford, B.C.; 17 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 1 sister. The funeral was July 9 in Central Heights MB Church, with Al McVety ministering.
