WILLIS J. AMSTUTZ

Willis J. Amstutz, 96, formerly of Pandora, Ohio, died April 4, 1997, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton, Ohio.

He was born Nov. 22, 1901, near Bluffton to Ephraim and Ida Steiner Amstutz. On Aug. 23, 1931, he married Odessa Bixel.

Willis was a math and science teacher, superintendent and basketball coach of Latty (Ohio) High School. He spent much of his life outdoors as a farmer and also worked for the OYO Seed Co. He was president of the local Men’s Garden Club and served as president of the Northwest Regional Garden Club.

He was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton, and served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and treasurer for many years. He was active in the Christian Layman Association and the Gideon Association.

Survivors include his wife, Odessa; three daughters, Marilyn and husband Leroy J. Stucky of Hutchinson, Kan., Annabelle and husband James Humphrey of Markesan, Wis., and Lucille and husband John Snow of Akron; two sisters, Rhoda Burkholder of Columbus Grove and Vera Schumacher of Pandora; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Allen, Clarence and Francis; and three sisters, Lillian Amstutz, Burdelle Geiger and Mabel Jones.
