Albrecht, Otillia Waltner (1906-1961)
Mennonite Weekly Review obituary: 1961 Sep 28 p. 8
Birth date: 1906 Sep 25
text of obituary:
MRS. OTILLIA ALBRECHT
Otilla [sic Otillia} Waltner Albrecht was born on Sept. 25, 1906 to Caroline (Mueller) Waltner and Jos. J. N. Waltner. She was baptized by Rev. E. J. Neuenschwander and joined the Salem Mennonite church near Freeman, S. D. on Dec. 24, 1921.
In Nov. 29, 1957 she was married to Peter C. Albrecht.
Part of her own obituary is as follows: "I finished Freeman Academy and normal course in 1924, then spent one year at home and graduated from Yankton College in 1929. I moved to Freeman with my parents in 1936 and taught two years in Freeman High School and one summer of Bible school which was satisfying.
"In September 1956 I finished a Practical Nurses course and started working part time at the Freeman hospital. Taking care of the sick and helpless, and especially the service one can render in this field of work which is beyond the call of duty, gave me the greatest satisfaction and blessing. My work in the hospital was terminated Jan. 8, 1958 when I became ill. All winter I seemed neither well nor ill, afflicted with sleepless nights and tremendous weariness. In April my condition became more acute and I had brain surgery for cancer."
Otillia's first year of illness was spent with family members, and she was hospitalized for over two years. She passed away Sept. 8, 1961.
She leaves to follow her husband, Peter C. Albrecht; three stepdaughters, Vanna, Darla, and Bernette; one sister, Bertha, Mrs. John P. M. Waltner and husband; two brothers, Herbert and wife, Ralph and wife, and many other relatives and friends. — Peter C. Albrecht and Waltner Families.
