Fred Aeschliman was born in Canton Neuchatel, Switzerland, on Sept. 24, 1859, and passed away on march 10, 1945, at Colfax, Wash., at the age of 85 years, five months and 16 days. He had been in failing health for two years.

He was married to Rosa Rubin in 1882 and came to America in 1885, stopping in Davis county, Iowa, for two years. In 1887 the family located in southern Whitman county, near Almota, Wash. he engaged in farming here and in the Onecho community until 1925 when he and his companion located in Colfax, in so-called retirement.

Both he and his wife were charter members of the First Mennonite church of near Colfax. As long as possible they attended the services regularly, and even in his illness he inquired regularly about the progress of the church. He had a deep love for the Word of god and found great comfort in reading it; in the days of suffering he witnessed to the unfailing grace of God according to His promise.

His wife, with whom he shared joys and sorrows for over 61 years, preceded him in death by one year. One son also preceded him in death.

He is survived by six sons: Lou, Will, Ed, Sam, Ira and John, all of Colfax and vicinity; two daughters; Mary, Mrs. Walter Buri of Colfax; and Martha, Mrs. Elmer Widmer, Albany, Ore.; one sister, Mrs. Rose Rubin, Pullman, Wash., and one brother, Ernest Aeschliman, Colfax; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite church of Colfax on March 13. In charge of the service was his pastor, W. Harley King, assisted by Rev. Herbert Widmer of Garfield, Wash., and Rev. Earl Shoup of Pullman, Wash. Burial was at the Colfax cemetery.
