VERNA ALICE ADRIAN

Verna Alice Adrian, daughter of H. S. and Justina Friesen, was born in Hillsboro, Kan. on Jan. 14, 1920 and went to be with the Lord on Aug. 23, 1978 at Pleasant View Manor in Reedley, Calif.

At age 13 she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. She was baptized and accepted as a member of the Mennonite church at Inola, Okla. at the age of 15.

She was married in 1939 to Sam Adrian of Buhler, Kan. Soon afterward a serious rheumatic heart disease was manifested in her, which meant a need for much rest. A few years later a daughter Janis was born against doctors' wishes, but the Lord knew how much she would need this precious daughter in later years.

In her diary Verna wrote "Then a year later our house burned down, and we lost almost everything we had. . . . After that I spent much time in bed. I had plenty of time to read the Bible and found so many precious promises how the Lord takes care of His children if we simply trust Him.

"Next we had a very serious accident, and my rheumatic fever flared up again, and many bones had been broken. Again the Lord helped me to get better."

In later years when she became too weak to do her own housework she was advised to go into a rest home. She moved into Palm Haven in Reedley and was thankful for the wonderful care she received there. After surgery for a broken hip bone she was taken to Pleasant View Manor where she was lovingly cared for.

She leaves to mourn a daughter and husband, Janis and Bob Conn of Los Gatos, Calif.; her parents, H. S. and Justina Friesen of Dallas, Ore.; four sisters and their husbands, Ruby and Elmer Bartell of Ferndale, Wash., Alma and Ivan Elrich of Rosedale, Calif., Elda Jane and Gus Quiring of Dallas, Ore. and Susan and Harold Schroeder of Visalia, Calif.; two brothers and their wives, Leo and Mildred Friesen of Forest Grove, Ore. and John J. and Beverly Friesen of Dallas, Ore. and one grandson, Brian.
