MRS. KATIE ADRIAN

Katie Unruh Adrian was born to John T. and Katherine Pauls Unruh on June 22, 1875 near Parker, South Dakota. Here she spent her early childhood years.

At the age of 11 she lost her mother through death. Her father remarried later and moved to Bingham Lake, Minn. where she spent her youth. She sensed her need of salvation and accepted Christ as her personal Saviour on June 25, 1896. She was baptized on July 26, 1896 and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren church, Parker, South Dakota. Later, together with father she transferred to the Rosehill church, Munich, North Dakota, and finally to the Buhler, Kan. Mennonite Brethren church. Here she remained a faithful member till her homegoing. She was a charter member of the Tabitha Sisters Sewing Circle and an active member. Of great importance to her was a small prayer group of which she was a member as long as her health allowed. After surgery on her eye, she read the new Testament four times.

Throughout her life mother enjoyed fairly good health. She had a cataract removed from her eye in 1955 after which she spent much of her time reading. She suffered a heart attack on Oct. 30, 1959 and was hospitalized. Though she returned to her home after several weeks at Grace hospital she never fully recovered. She peacefully fell asleep in her easy chair and went to be with her Lord on Monday, Jan. 25, 1960. Mother attained the age of 84 years, seven months, and three days.

She was united in marriage to Henry H. Adrian on Nov. 17, 1895. They established their home on a farm near Parker, South Dakota. In 1903 they moved to Loma, North Dakota, where they homesteaded a tract of land and built a home for their family. After seven years they deemed it advisable to move to a warmer climate for the health of both father and mother and came to Buhler, Kansas where they established a business. Her husband and our father was called away in death in 1952. They enjoyed 57 years of married life together. Since then mother carried on bravely with a towering faith, a heart of service and a loving smile. She was a pillar of spiritual strength to her children, whom she upheld in prayer continuously.

To this union were born six children, one son and five daughters. Her husband, three daughters, two grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn one son, August Herbert and Gladys Adrian of Berclair, Texas; two daughters, Tena and I. H. Balzer of Buhler, Kansas, Lydia and Ben A. Martens of Hutchinson, Kansas; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Gunther of Salem, Oregon and Mrs. Nettie Wiebe of Bakersfield, Calif.

Mother's life could be characterized as one of labor and service. She had almost unlimited energy which she expended in work and found joy in doing it. — The Bereaved Family.
