HELENA WIEBE

Helena Wiebe was born on January 15, 1886 in Kudashewka, Russia to August Mary Lietz (nee Thielman). At the age of six she moved with her parents to Charkow into the village of Plenowka. Her parents feared the Lord and raised the children to also fear him.

At the age of twenty, in November 1906, she married Peter P. Wiebe. Together with some other families they decided to move to Canada, arriving in Rosthern, Sask. in November, 1908. They lived with an aunt of Mr. Wiebe in Waldheim for one year, and then went to Dalmeny, Saskatchewan.

It was here that Jesus became her personal Saviour. She was baptized by Rev. Peter Nickel in Hepburn.

There were several more moves: to Deere Lake, Sask., to Acme, Alta. in 1928 and later to Coaldale. In 1951 Mr. Wiebe passed away, and Mrs. Wiebe then lived in a house on her son Henry's yard in Gem, Alta. for ten years. In 1967 she moved to B.C.

She passed away December 26, at the age of nearly 88 years. The funeral was held at the Bakerview Mennonite Brethren Church in Clearbrook on Dec. 31. Rev. J. H . Quiring officiated, assisted by Rev. Peter Unger and Rev. Daniel D. Wiebe, her son, who brought a message from I John 3: 1,2, thus keeping his promise to her.

She was predeceased by her parents; four sisters and. one brother; her husband, P. P. Wiebe; son Walter, Hillsboro, Kansas; two daughters, Alma and Josephine; and one great-grandchild.

Left to mourn are four sons: Jacob, August, Daniel, Henry; five daughters: Helen Rempel, Mary Rahn, Susie Martens, Annie Baerg, Erna Jantzen; 49 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.
