D. D. Wadel

D. D. Wadel was born in Poland, Russia, September 30, 1870, and passed away at his home in Winton, California, at 2.30 p.m. on May 10, 1938, at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 11 days. He came to America with his parents while a boy in 1874, settling near Pawnee Rock, Kansas. later they moved to Durham, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. There he was married to Lena Jantz on Oct. 26, 1895, and lived in matrimony for some over 42 years.

He was converted and baptized in the Church of God in Christ in 1902, of which he was a faithful member until death.

He began failing in health 5 years ago, but apparently got well again. Early in 1937 he again grew worse and was under the doctor's care until finally death claimed him. In the last few years of his life he was especially concerned about a closer walk with God and prepared for his long home. We believe this was granted him.

He was always up and around attending church services regularly until the last day of his life when he was at the barn watching a wood-sawing job. Feeling the attack coming on he walked toward the house where the end came. Mrs. Wedel and his daughter Frances and son-in-law Giesbrecht were with him when he passed away. Also P. G. Loewen and J. B. Koehn were there at the time and helped take the body to the house.

He is survived by his life companion, Mrs. Lena Wadel, and 4 sons and 5 daughters, which are as follows: Vernon Wadel of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, (who was not present at the funeral); Clarence Wadel of De Ridder, Louisiana, Mrs. Lodie Schmidt of Haviland, Kansas; Mrs. Pearl Nightengale of Greensburg, Kansas; Mrs. Sadye Jantz of Gustine, California; Louis Wadel of Winton, California, Mrs. Francis Giesbrecht and Mrs. Hattie Koehn of Winton, California, 42 grandchildren and 1 brother Jacob Wadel of Aberdeen, Idaho.
