He was baptized upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ on May 27, 1928 by Rev. P. H. Richert. He became a member of the Tabor Mennonite Church, where he remained a faithful member until his death.

A heart condition from early childhood caused him to miss a year of school in his early teens, hospitalized him several times, and limited his ability to do hard, physical tasks. Shortly after last Christmas he took sick and was hospitalized after which he entered the Berthed Home.

He lived in the Goessel community his entire life. Following the death of his parents, he lived with his brother Jacob until he moved to his own home in Goessel.

On the morning of June 27 he was up for breakfast as usual and mentioned that he might attend worship service. At 8:15 a.m. he fell over and was gone.

He leaves to remember his life two brothers, Dan S. Thiesen and Jacob S. Thiesen of rural Newton, and their families; three aunts, Mrs. H. J. R. Schmidt and Mrs. Henry Brandt of the Bethesda Homel, and Mrs. Marie K. Schmidt of North Newton; one uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. David J. Schmidt, Aberdeen, Idaho; his neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 29, at 9:15 a.m. at the Bethesda Home and at the Tabor Mennonite Church at 10 a.m. with Rev. James H. Waltner officiating. Six of his nephews were pallbearers. An octet sang at both services and at the cemetery. Bartel was made at Tabor Cemetery.
