JACOB C. NEUFELD

Jacob C. Neufeld was born at Mountain Lake, Minn. on June 1, 1886, to Cornelius and Margaret (Sukkau) Neufeld.

In 1898 he was baptized in the church of his faith. On July 16, 1908, he was united in marriage with Anna Unruh, which union was blessed with three children.

In 1919, the deceased moved his family to Freeman, S. D. and entered business, in which he continued until his retirement in 1953.

In 1922, together with his wife, he became a member of Bethany Mennonite church, which he faithfully served for many yeas as Sunday School superintendent, deacon, member of the board of trustees, and chorister.

Assuming his responsibilities as a citizen, he served for a number of years as mayor of his town, and also as a member of the board of education.

In failing health for the past several years, he became seriously ill on June 18 and passed on to his reward on Friday, June 27, 1958, at the local hospital, having attained the age of 72 years and 27 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Anna, three children, Wesley of Yankton, Viola Bruun and John of Freeman; one son-in-law, W. F. Bruun, two daughters-in-law, Adella Neufeld and Arlene Neufeld; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three brothers, Cornelius, Aaron and Henry, and one sister, Margaret all living in California; a host of cousins, one of whom, Mrs. Anita Loewen has been visiting in the Neufeld home.

His father and mother, and one sister and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
