MRS. KATHARINA KLASSEN

(Mrs.) Katharina Hooge Klassen of Clearbrook, B.C. was called home to be with the Lord on January 9. She was born to Jakob and Eva (nee Peters) Hooge on March 16 1889 in Friedensruh, Molotschna, Russia. She was one of 11 children. In Friedensruh she met Jakob J. Klassen, and they were married on April 29, 1910. She accepted Jesus as her Saviour in February 1911. In 1914 the couple and their two children moved to a new settlement, Kalontarowka in the Caucasus. They farmed there until 1926, and five more children were born, two of whom died in infancy. She had to manage the farm during the First World War when her husband was drafted into the army. On May 23, 1918 the couple was baptized and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren Church. The family left Russia in 1926 and arrived in Dalmeny, Sask. in 1927. The couple moved to B.C. in 1941 and lived in Yarrow, Chilliwack and later Clearbrook. Her husband died on January 24, 1967. In 1968 she moved to the Tabor Home in Clearbrook.

Her family remembers her as being keenly interested in people, hospitable and thankful for whatever circumstances she was in. She is survived by children Mary (Mrs. Abe) Cornies, Jacob, Eva (Mrs. Jake) Voth, Annie (Mrs. Rudy) Boschman, Margareth (Mrs. John) Janzen, Abe, and their spouses; 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one sister; and many other relatives. The funeral was held on January 11 at the Clearbrook MB Church, with pastor John Baerg and Rudy Boschman officiating.
