MRS. MARY HARTZLER

Mrs. Mary Hartzler, daughter of Joseph and Christena (Kauffman) Miller, was born in Lagrange County, Indiana, November 10, 1868 and peacefully fell asleep at her home near East Lynne, Missouri, January 23, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 15 days. In August, 1872, her parents moved to Cass county, Missouri, where she spent the remainder of her life in the vicinity of Garden City and East Lynne, Missouri.

On December 24, 1889, she was united in marriage with Isaac G. Hartzler off Mifflin county, Pennsylvania, who was ordained deacon and later bishop of the Sycamore Grove congregation. Her husband now survives her passing.

This union was never blessed with children of their own but they received into their home four foster-children, Mabel S., Mrs. William Guilliam, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Emery D. King, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; Phoebe King, Mrs. T. H. Erb, Denver, Colorado, and Lorene V., Mrs. Earl Roth, who, living in the same home, lovingly and faithfully took care of their mother while she lived. Mother Hartzler was ill for several years and bedfast for the last 16 months.

Others surviving are 13 grand-children, 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Levi J. Miller of Hutchinson, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Yoder, Garden City, Mo.; Cassie, Mrs. A. E. Hostetler of Middlebury, Indiana, and many other relatives and friends.

Those who preceded her in death are Lizzie, Mrs. A. A. King; David Miller and Jonathan K. Miller.

In her youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Sycamore Grove congregation of which she remained a faithful member and servant until death. She was always ready to help and stand by her husband in all his labors for the church. She took much joy in her home and her life was one sacrifice and service. She and her husband had the privilege of enjoying wedded life for over 56 years.

Funeral services were held on January 26, at the home, in charge of S. S. Hershberger and E. C. Bowman; at the Sycamore Grove church in charge of W. R. Hershberger who was assisted by J. C. Driver and J. A. Kauffman. Text: Matt. 24, 13; Eccl. 7:1. Interment was made in the Clearfork cemetery.
